Why Tri-M?
Jefferson High School Member Requirements:
A note about service hours:
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING INDUCTED INTO THE TRI-M MUSIC HONOR SOCIETY – CHAPTER #7179 OF JEFFERSON HIGH SCHOOL, PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING:
- Tri-M is an international music honor society, which recognizes musical achievement, academic excellence, and community service.
- Tri-M is a part of NAfME (National Association for Music Education), which is among the world’s largest arts education organization.
Why Tri-M?
- Provides recognition for students’ accomplishments and service activities to motivate them to achieve on a higher level.
- Increases the visibility and prestige of Jefferson High School's music program.
- Builds awareness of the importance of music in our school and community through service and outreach.
- Increases teamwork among instrumental and vocal students and faculty as they work together on Tri-M activities.
- Offers leadership opportunities for music students and faculty.
- Recognizes the contributions of school faculty members and administrative staff, parents, and community leaders.
- Encourages music faculty members to keep up on the most current issues and teaching techniques.
Jefferson High School Member Requirements:
- Must be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior.
- Must have a 3.0 or above cumulative GPA (previous semester)
- Must have at least 1 year in a Jefferson High School Music ensemble before induction.
- Must audition for an All-District ensemble (fall), perform a solo/ensemble at District contest (spring), or exhibit a commitment to the music department through volunteerism.
- Must have 95% attendance in school.
- Must have a grade letter “A” in all music courses
- Must be willing and able to participate in monthly Tri-M meetings, community service projects, and other scheduled Tri-M activities. ONE meeting per month is MANDATORY.
A note about service hours:
- Each CHAPTER must complete a minimum of 25 hours per school year
- Each MEMBER of the chapter must complete 10 hours
- Hours must be obtained through TRI-M sponsored events/service projects
- Hours can NOT be intermingled with other organizations such as NHS
- Any hour OVER 10 service hours CAN be used for other organizations such as NHS
- School concerts and gigs for ensembles do NOT count as service hours if the student is already participating for a grade.
- Hours MUST be obtained through TRI-M sponsored events/service projects as stated in bullet #1
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING INDUCTED INTO THE TRI-M MUSIC HONOR SOCIETY – CHAPTER #7179 OF JEFFERSON HIGH SCHOOL, PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING:
- Read the requirements above and make sure that you meet all requirements before applying
- Print and fill out the application and turn it in to the Mr. or Mrs. Sikes
- Last step: wait patiently until all paperwork is turned in and the advisors have checked over requirements. Applications for membership are handed out in April. Induction ceremony will take place prior to the spring concert.
